New procedures for exporters of GSP goods to the European Union

A new system for the certification of the origin of goods within the GSP (Generalised System of Preference) will be effective as of 1 January 2017. Exporters are required to register in the Registered Export System (the REX system) to be eligible for the GSP benefits of the European Union.

The new REX system will gradually replace the current system of origin certification based on certificates of origin issued by governmental authorities. A transition period will start on 1 January and last until 30 June 2020. India, for example, is one of the countries to start applying the new system.

For more information on the new rules please check the European Commission Taxation and Customs Union pages.

It is possible to check if an exporter is registered in the REX system in the European Commission Registered Exporters Database
