Strike situation in Finland

In Finland, industrial action may affect transports to, from and within the country in the next few weeks. However, the ongoing overtime ban at the Finnish ports is not expected to significantly slow down export or import deliveries or terminal operations this week or next week.

The collections and cargo handling of export shipments are expected to go on according to the usual schedules in weeks 5 and 6. Due to the ban on overtime, however, there may be changes vessel schedules, but mostly the cargo is expected to travel normally.

Unless there is advancement in the collective agreement negotiations, AKT, the Finnish Transport Workers’ Union has announced strikes. If implemented, the industrial action will stop the loading and unloading of ships, terminal operations in ports and truck traffic.

Strike warnings are issued as follows:

Stevedores from 15.22.2023 until further notice
Truck drivers 15.2.-21.2.2023
Terminal workers 15.2.-22.2.2023

If actualizing, the strikes will have considerable effects on international transport. Moreover, further widespread strikes have been planned for example at the retail sector in Finland.

We hope for a quick solution in the industry’s labour market negotiations, and we will monitor the progress of the situation.
