Rail transport from China
Freight from China reaches Finland in about three weeks by container train. Rail transport is a suitable transport solution when the 6-7 week transit time by sea is too long, and airfreight would be too expensive. Therefore, railway transport is optimally suited for high-value industrial and commercial goods, as well as for seasonal an promotional goods.
The China-Europe Block Train (CEBT) operates regularly between China and Europe. The route covers over 12000 kilometers from China to Finland through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and Poland. Transport units are mostly regular 40’ containers. For dangerous goods, acceptance for rail carriage must be checked in advance, and the shipper must present the required hazardous goods documents.
Rail transport between China and Europe has recently attracted investments and new operators, which has made rail freight a more and more competitive solution in terms of freight pricing. Transit times have become shorter due to simplified customs procedures and documentation. The time required for rail gauge change has also been shortened from several days to a few hours which makes the service faster than before.
